Celebrate Black History Month through music! Our 2021 theme this year is ‘Black Merfolk and Myths from Around the World’ we are learning about how cultures that lived along the sea developed stories of mermaids. The music that we find ‘by the sea’ would be Afro-Caribbean or Calypso! This may be a new music genre to many of our students as well as this year’s ‘featured instrument’, the steel drum!

Everyone, no matter what school district, is encouraged to take advantage of this unique and fun interactive program. *If you are an educator in the southern Illinois region and would like to purchase supplemental materials to make this a hands-on learning experience for your students please contact Carrie GibbsDirector of the Shrode Art Center, at carrie@cedarhurst.org or call 618-242-1236 ext. 249.
