Paid Summer Intern
Summer Employment Opportunity for a student age 16 to 22 years old*
Description:
Cedarhurst Center for the Arts (Mt. Vernon, Illinois) is looking for an art- experienced student who can serve as a part-time Summer ASSISTANT at Cedarhurst’s SHRODE ART CENTER.
Employment will start mid to late June, 2026
Compensation & Qualifications:
$15/hour, up to 20 hours/week in June, July, and August 2026, as schedule permits
· Applicant must have been enrolled in art courses during their high school and/or college tenure,
· Have a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
· Must be organized, with strong people skills, and
· Experience working with clay and kiln firings is preferred
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage Clay Room activities: Kiln wash shelves; track inventory; prep, load, and unload kilns; glaze and prep student artwork for firing, etc.
· Prepare art materials for lessons, classes and activities, e.g. Summer Camp, Thursday Night Live, Family Days, Special Events, etc.
· Assist summer camp teachers with lesson administration, material preparation, and assist students with their projects as needed.
· Organize Shrode Art Center (SAC) Supply Closet and track inventory.
· Promptly and cheerfully greet visitors and serve as an information resource to guests.
· Assist SAC Assistant with clerical work such as mailings, payments, etc.
· Provide support and staffing at museum events, as assigned.
· Assist with Exhibitions: accept artworks; set up and break down exhibits (under supervision of SAC Director); create labels; etc.· Staff SAC building when Director is away on business, meetings, or lunch hours.
* Cedarhurst has received a Youth Employment grant from the Illinois Arts Council to fund this part-time position.
