Summer Intern
Summer Employment Opportunity for a student age 16 to 22 years old*
Description:
Cedarhurst Center for the Arts (Mt.Vernon, Illinois) is looking for an art experienced student who can serve as a part-time Summer ASSISTANT at Cedarhurst’s SHRODE ART CENTER.
Employment will start mid to late June, 2025
Summer Intern
Compensation & Qualifications:
$15/hour, up to 20 hours/week in June, July, and August 2025, as schedule permits
- Applicant must have been enrolled in art courses during their high school and/or college tenure
- Must be organized, with strong people skills
- Experience working with clay and kiln firings is preferred
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with Exhibitions: accept artworks; set up and break down exhibits (under supervision of SAC Director); create labels, etc.
- Manage Clay Room activities: Kiln wash shelves; track inventory; prep, load and unload kilns; glaze and prep student artwork for firing, etc.
- Prepare art materials for lessons, classes and activities, e.g. Summer Camp, Thursday Night Live, Family Days, Special Events, etc.
- Assist summer camp teachers with
- lesson administration, material preparation, and assist students with their projects as needed.
- Organize Shrode Art Center (SAC) Supply Closet and track inventory.
- Promptly and cheerfully greet visitors
and serve as an information resource to guests. - Assist SAC Assistant with clerical work such as mailings, payments, etc.
- Provide support and staffing at museum events, as assigned.
- Staff SAC building when Director is away on business, meetings, or lunch hours.
Attend Staff Meetings, held the first Tuesday of every month at 9 am

Weekend Attendant
Cedarhurst Center for the Arts is currently accepting applications for a Weekend Attendant who can greet weekend visitors and offer them first-rate customer service.
Description:
The Weekend Attendant is the first impression at the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts. This position will greet visitors to the Mitchell Museum and Shrode Art Center buildings, answer phones and take messages for museum staff, and manage ticket sales and customer interactions. A friendly, upbeat personality is a must. This position works 10 hours every other weekend.
Weekend Attendant Qualifications:
- Friendly, upbeat personality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to master new technologies.
- Ability to identify potential negative or crisis situations and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues.
- Availability to work weekends and occasional evenings.
Technical Skills:
- Ability to learn and operate museum software.
- Ability to learn and operate Google Workspace.
Work Hours and Duties
- This is a part-time position scheduled every other weekend, with some additional hours required during the museum’s peak season.
- Staff the Mitchell Museum’s front desk reception area or Shrode Art Center building and effectively interat with visitors and members to ensure positive experiences, answer questions, and resolve complaints.
- Build a thorough understanding of all levels of membership and current museum programming.
- Conduct point of sale transactions for museum visitors.
Compensation
This position works 10 hours every other weekend.
Some additional evening hours are required during the museum’s peak season.
Pay is $15/hour.
