Cedarhurst opened the interactive Family Education Center in 2008, boasting a variety of hands-on activity stations that promote creative growth and development for ages 3-12. It has become one of the most used and well-loved spaces at Cedarhurst. Free and open to the public, more than 25% of general attendance visitors come to utilize this area.
As expected, heavy traffic has taken a toll on the space, and the proposed makeover will refurbish and redevelop the area based on community feedback. Family center favorites like the Lego® mosaic and weaving wall will be enhanced, while new activities like a curating station and collaborative sculpture provide new fun and creative challenges. The redesign focuses on open-ended activities that will bring back visitors by giving them fresh experiences on every visit. The popular tree will stay, the center of a new Storytime Glen reading area with more room for books and rolling hill benches that invite family reading.
Cedarhurst needs your help to revitalize its interactive family education center! Director of Education, Jennifer Sarver and museum staff have been working with Chicago’s RedBox Workshop design company, and the result is a $125,000 makeover that revitalizes the entire space.
Help fund this exciting redesign that will serve southern Illinois families for years to come!
