The Shrode Fine Art and Craft Competition and Exhibition is an annual exhibit open to all artists 18 years of age and older living in southern Illinois, south of Interstate 70, including Charleston, IL. Artists may enter a variety of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, clay, fiber, mixed media, wood, fine jewelry, metal, and sculpture. 199 works of art were submitted by 81 different artists for judging. A total of 59 works were accepted into the 2019 exhibition. Nine prestigious awards will be announced on February 23: Best of Show ($400), Best of 2-Dimensional ($250), Best of 3-Dimensional ($250), 2 Honorable Mention ($175 each), and 4 Merit Certificates.
This year’s competition was judged by Doug Johnson who has served as the Executive Director of the McLean County Arts Center in Bloomington for the past sixteen years, and is the State Outreach Coordinator for Arts Alliance Illinois. He earned a MFA in Painting from Northern Illinois University. Doug has exhibited in Chicago at the Adding-ton and Peter Miller Galleries, and the Chicago International Art Exposition. His paintings are in many public and private collections.
