ABOUT THE EXHIBIT:
The Shrode Fine Art and Craft Competition and Exhibition is an annual exhibit open to all artists 18 years of age and older living in southern Illinois, south of Interstate 70, including Charleston, IL. Artists may enter a variety of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, clay, fiber, mixed media, wood, fine jewelry, metal, and sculpture. There are five prestigious awards: Best of Show ($400), Best of 2-Dimensional ($250), Best of 3-Dimensional ($250), 2 Honorable Mention ($175 each), and 4 Merit Certificates. This year 135 works of art were submitted for judging and 46 works were chosen for the exhibit by Dick Dougherty, our guest judge.
Dick Dougherty has taught painting and drawing at the college level since 1974. He received a BFA & MFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. He has held faculty and art administrative positions at Swain School of Design in New Bedford, MA; University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth; and Chair of the Department of Art & Design at Murray State University, Murray, KY until he retired in 2013. Dick is an active exhibitor with sixteen solo exhibitions and numerous other national and international exhibitions to his credit. Dick is currently Co-owner of the T+D Gallery at 307 Chestnut Street, Berea, KY with his wife and sculptor Robin Taffler.
