Tie-Dye and Batik Fiber Workshop

Saturday, September 28 10:30 am-3:30 pm
Sunday, September 29 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Instructor: Carrie Stover
Class fee: $75 (includes all materials)

Tie-dye is a way of creating patterns of color by folding, tying, crumpling or otherwise preparing the fabric to inhibit the flow of the dye into the folds of the fabric. With experience, the end result can be predicted and controlled to some extent, but surprise is part of what makes tie-dye an exciting and interesting art form that even a first timer can have great results. This weekend workshop will explore different ways to dye fabric. Batik methods will also be demonstrated using hot wax to resist the flow of dye to create intricate and beautiful patterns or hand-drawn images. Wear old clothes and shoes since the dye we are working with is permanent. Each student will be provided with a silk scarf and fabric squares for experimenting with different methods. Students can bring two T-shirts and one additional item, i.e. pair of socks, baby onesie, bandanna, etc.
